The captivating reflections, refractions, and distortions caught in underwater photographs are the focus for this ongoing series of paintings. I photograph friends and family, including myself and my children, and I’m drawn to paint those images that reveal the otherworldly, blissful, and ominous experience of being underwater. I aim for a faithful rendering of the images, which are too fantastical to invent.

Almas del Olmo, or "Souls of the Elm," are studies of a particular, majestic Camperdown Elm tree in Western Massachusetts on the campus of the Kripalu yoga retreat center.
